“Only a person who has experienced, accepted, and acted the entire human condition — the essential quality of which is Change — can fairly represent humanity.”— Ursula K. Le Guin “The Space Crone,” Dancing at the Edge of the World
The Climacteric
A Sacred Vessel for Women in their Season of Change
✢
Change is Upon You
✢
Something is happening to you.
Maybe it started quietly, a skipped cycle, a sudden heat rising from your chest, a sleeplessness that arrived without explanation or apology.
Or maybe it came like a storm: your body rearranging itself without asking permission, your moods shifting like weather, your relationship to time and your own skin feeling strange and new and yours in a way it hasn’t been before.
The world has a lot to say about this time.
Most of it is not kind.
It tends toward the clinical, the hushed, the vaguely apologetic, as though the most powerful threshold crossing of a woman’s life is primarily a medical inconvenience to be managed.
As. If.
A Word Recovered
✢
The Greeks had a word for this. Klimaktēr. It literally means a rung on a ladder. A critical turning point. A moment in life so significant it demands its own name, not a medical term, not a diagnosis, not a euphemism whispered over a pamphlet in a waiting room.
For centuries, women and physicians alike used this word to describe the great turning of a woman’s life: the years when the body undergoes its most profound transformation since puberty, when something fundamental shifts, and a woman crosses from one season of her life into another.
Then medicine decided to call it something else. Something that sounds like a pause. A stopping. A lack. A decline.
We are reclaiming the old word. We are re-membering it.
Because the old word knew something the new ones forgot.
This is not a pause, a stopping, or a lack. This is not a loss.
This is a klimaktēr.
A rung on the ladder.
The one that takes you higher.
✢
In every great tradition of the old sacred arts, this time has a name and a face. The Crone. The Elder. The Wise Woman. The Queen who has moved through the fires and emerged knowing things she could not have known before.
The woman the Greeks called the klimaktēr — she who has reached the critical rung.
The symptoms are real. The disruption is real. The heat, the sleeplessness, the fog, the emotions that arrive like uninvited weather, all of it is real. And so is the magic underneath it.
Menopause is not malfunction. It is metamorphosis, one that your body has been building toward your entire life. The same wisdom traditions that gave us ceremonies for first blood, for marriage, for birthing and dying and every great threshold crossing, understood that this crossing, too, deserves to be marked. Held.
Honored.
Worked with, not against.
In the old stories, the woman who passes through this fire becomes something more, not less. Her power does not diminish. It distills. It concentrates. It stops being available to everyone who wants a piece of it and begins, finally, to belong entirely to her. Many of you know this, feel it, and have spoken it aloud to me.
Ursula K. Le Guin, who wrote more clearly about this crossing than almost anyone, put it plainly: only a person who has experienced, accepted, and acted the entire human condition can fairly represent humanity.
That person is you.
That time is now.
That is what this vessel is for.
A Sacred Vessel is a container that holds prayers, petitions, intentions, and magic. When you join a Sacred Vessel, you are not signing up for a course or a subscription. You are entering a magical working. A living, ongoing ceremony that holds you throughout the year.
The Climacteric is a place where the ancient wisdom of the sacred arts meets the very real, very embodied experience of the Season of Change. Where hot flashes can become initiatory fires. Where the sleepless 3am hours can become a teacher. (Why do you think it’s the traditional “witching hour”?) Where the grief and wildness and power of this transition are held with both honesty and reverence.
You will not be managed here.
You will not be optimized.
You will not be told to eat more kale. (I would never do that to you.)
You will be met, held, and supported.
✢ You’re feeling foggy, scattered, or lost in the mist — and you need to reclaim your edge
✢ You have an audacious creative, artistic, or spiritual undertaking and need to bring real discipline, determination, and energy to it
✢ You want to sharpen your thinking, your choices, your language — less general and more precise, less vague and more specific, less passive and more active
✢ You’re a maker, a dreamer, a practitioner — and you’re ready to stop floating and start cutting through
✢ You feel the energy of this moment and you want it working for you, not at you
The Work
Here is what happens.
✢ You sign up. You send me your petition, how you want to meet this moment, what you are asking for in your Season of Change, what kind of support you need as your body and life transform. You do not need to have it all figured out. You just need to tell me where you are.
“I am burning and I need to know there is something sacred in the fire” is a complete petition.
“I am losing myself and I want to find out who I am becoming” is a complete petition.
So is “I don’t know what I need — I just know I need to be held.”
✢ I have built a Sacred Vessel for The Climacteric, a physical vessel filled with herbs, roots, oils, and curios that have been known and used for centuries to support women, women’s bodies, and this specific season of life. Your petition is folded and placed into that vessel. It lives there.
✢ Every week, the vessel is prayed over. Every week, candles are lit on it. Every week, you are held — energetically, intentionally, in the old way.
✢ That is it. No reports. No readings. No follow-up. The magic does not need to explain itself to you. You will know it is working because you are not working alone anymore.
The vessel holds you for the full year.
The Climactric is for you if…
✢ You are somewhere in the arc, whether you are just beginning to notice changes, deep in the thick of it, or newly on the other side.
✢ You are done being told your body is doing something wrong.
✢ You want ritual, ceremony, and the old ways to anchor you during a season that can feel profoundly disorienting — and profoundly alive.
✢ You know the medical story is not the whole story. You are looking for the rest of it.
✢ You have always known there was more to this than the pamphlet in the waiting room. You were right.
✢ You want to be held, not fixed.
✢
The Shape of the Vessel
✢
✢ Investment: $150 for the year. Renews annually.
✢ Spots are limited. When the vessel reaches capacity, enrollment closes.
The Ladder Ascends
✢
The ancients knew it. The sacred arts traditions knew it. Every wise woman who ever crossed this threshold and came out the other side carrying more than she went in with — knew it.
You are not declining.
You are on the rung rising.
Come be held while you climb.
