Mars Retrograde in Cancer

There is a Mars retrograde in 2024 in the signs of Leo and Cancer.

Mars Retrograde: December 6th 2024 – February 23rd 2025 Mars Retrograde begins at 5:33 PM in Leo at 6 degrees and stations direct on February 23rd 2025 at 8:00 PM in Cancer at 17 degrees.

On January 6th, Mars retrogrades into the sign of Cancer where it will remain through mid-April.

Mars in Cancer is Mars in its Fall which means that it can be a particularly tricky time, especially for those with strong Cancer or 4th house placements.

This is a time when you especially want to be aware of how you act and what you say…because issues that seem to be not that big of a deal have a way of exploding and having an outsized impact during this time.

Because this is a long retrograde (lasting until February 23rd) and then Mars remains in Cancer until mid-April, it sets up the astrology for 2025 to be rough and rocky right out the gate. Which means of course that it is time to make magic.

Those who have strong Cancer/4th house placements are likely to be especially affected by this RX period. Some of the challenges may include:

  • Challenges initiating new projects
  • Feeling cold/unseen when it comes to tenderness and intimacy with your beloved
  • Difficulties with finances, financial planning, and especially saving $$$$$
  • Negativity around and within your home and family
  • Family disagreements blowing out of proportion
  • Troubles with children, mothering, and/or mothers
  • Exhaustion
  • Energetic depletion

The Mars in Cancer Ceremony:
Mars in Cancer is Mars in its Fall. We want to honor both the elements of Fire and Water during this period of time and support our Cancer/4th house placements in the process. The ceremony begins by an observation of the individual’s natal charts to determine their unique Cancer and 4th house placements. Each individual is prompted to send in a petition listing out their concerns during this period. Then, floating candles blessed, dressed, and set in a pool of sacred waters are lit at the moment that Mars retrogrades into Cancer and then each Tuesday (the day sacred to Mars) during the Mars in Cancer period.
