One of the interesting things about magic and looking at the world through a magical lens, is that, when things get dire, I get active. Specifically I get active in looking for a remedy, in looking for how exactly I might transform the scared into the sacred.

This has served me well in a number of personal life struggles, and it serves me well today.

Another interesting thing about about magic and looking at the world through a magical lens, is that you find Hole Helpers in the most unexpected places with the most interesting messages.

Take the Snake for instance.

Long a symbol of ancient and holy women’s mysteries, the Snake is only more recently a symbol of evil. These highly sensitive and attuned animals have always been omens of protection and alertness for me – a reminder to open my eyes, pitch my ears forward, and pay attention. Protection through vigilance.

Another interesting aspect of the Snake? It reminds us that a cure can often be found in the curse. Take Snake venom for instance. Venom in too high of a dose is fatal to humans and creatures. Venom in the right dose, cut with the right ingredients, is a powerful analgesic among other things. And of course, Venom is required to create antivenin – the life-saving medicine that someone takes when they have been bitten by a snake.

Venom can be a curse…or a cure…depending on who is wielding it and how it is being wielded.

For our purposes we are working with the protective and curative components of Venom – both as an actual ingredient in this community Sacred Vessel and as a metaphor for great, deep, powerful, and yes, aggressive, protection magic.
